Rapture & Ruin
The Repentant to Jehovah
Sometime after the apocalypse a prophet, now called Saint Renatus, gathered men and women to himself and built a religion by combining Old World Christian dogma with a strong undercurrent of sinful penalty. God had come and raised the faithful into the heavens, and those left behind – the Ruiners – were those that transgressed upon God’s doctrine by worshipping a false idol, technology, and thusly breaking the seventh commandment – and the worst offenders had become the Marked Humans. This event came to be called The Rapture and was soon adopted by the people as the name for the apocalypse that killed Earth and created Ruin. Saint Renatus preached that all mankind must repent for their sins and exterminate those whom were Marked by God, and only then would they be permitted to join the rest of humanity in God’s kingdom. The Repentant to Jehovah grew quickly as countless flocked to Saint Renatus and his message of guidance. Soon after The Repentant decided that mankind was too weak to resist the lure of old mistakes, and so they repurposed their newly created defensive force as The Abolition of The Seventh – a name meant to evoke respect for the seventh commandment. The Abolition then engaged in a massive search-and-destroy mission with only one target: Old World tech. But they broke from their assignment and became violent raiders bent on hoarding the very tech they were meant to destroy and employing it for their own gain. The Repentant immediately disavowed their militant arm, now calling themselves The Abolition of The Ten, and has since worked to rectify their greatest mistake and repair their damaged reputation.
Today The Repentant is a benevolent organization and barely resembles their original format. The religion keeps a careful distance between themselves and all things war-like for fear that the people will suspect a reinstatement of an official army, and only employs arduously selected and trained crusaders to hunt down and exterminate Marked Humans. The Repentant now devote most of their resources to spreading their gospel and teaching the Ruiners survival methods without resorting to the use of advanced technology.
The faith’s American headquarters, The Cathedral of Absolution, is located in New Richmond where the Repentant are perfectly situated to guide the growing New Confederation and thusly have the broadest effect on the people.
